electrical alternans

Under normal conditions, the pattern of depolarization and repolarization of the cell membrane of cardiac myocytes remains stable from one beat to the next. Under certain conditions, the shape of the action potential varies on a beat by beat basis between two contrasting states, usually in the form of duration alternans. Electrical alternans has been well established as a mechanism of arrhythmogenesis and sudden cardiac death. 


MAP alternans

In collaboration with Vassili La Rocca, we have incorporated and refined the method described by Charles M. Pearman, quantifying electrical alternans from MAP recordings.
